The Importance of Updating Your Internet Browser

With fall rearing its head, many companies are looking to turn over some new leaves. On August 1, Google did just that by making cuts to the browsers that Google Apps now support. Included in the cut were Firefox 3.5, Safari 3, Internet Explorer 7, as well as all earlier versions of Explorer. Although the elimination of Firefox 3.5 and Safari 3 is not likely to affect many users, the elimination of Internet Explorer 7 and its predecessors is forecasted to have an impact on over 17% of the browser market.

You may be wondering what Google was thinking when they decided to make the cut. A likely guess would be to market their new Google Chrome Browser as the best new choice among browsers. Yet this does not appear to be the case. Rather, Google is encouraging users to update to the latest versions of their favorite browsers, whichever that may be. It is likely that the move was crafted to generate a more tech-savvy consumer and to draw attention to the importance of updating all software regularly.

How new browser versions benefit you and your company:

  • Increased security benefits
  • Avoid compatibility problems associated with older versions
  • Allow your applications to work more smoothly and efficiently
  • Allow access to the newest applications
  • Many new websites function only in newer browser versions

So go ahead, follow Google’s lead. If you’re looking to enhance your online security and efficiency, update your browsers to the latest versions.
