Part 1 of a 4 Part Series
on Veterinary Hospital Email Newsletters

Adding a veterinary email newsletter to your marketing tool box can help drive traffic to your veterinary hospital website, attract new customers, and increase loyalty among your existing clients. Email newsletters are one of the best ways to communicate with clients as they build relationships, loyalty and trust. They are also the most cost-effective way to communicate your latest news to pet owners and prospective clients.

According to research conducted by the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing generated a return on investment (ROI) of $48.34 for every dollar spent on it in 2007. In a 2008 column, Nielsen listed an email newsletter as “probably the single-highest ROI action you can make.”

The cost and effectiveness of an email newsletter for your veterinary practice makes a printed newsletter obsolete. Imagine how much it would cost you to create and print five thousand double-sided full-color pages. Add the cost of addressing the newsletters, applying labels, postage, and sending them out. Compared to a printed newsletter, once you have established your client database and have collected email addresses from other sources, sending out an email newsletter costs practically nothing.

How does an email newsletter work? Something like this – by sending your clients and prospective clients a regular veterinary email newsletter, you keep your practice and your services fresh in their minds. So, the next time they need any kind of veterinary service, they think of you first. In fact, they think of you as “the only” hospital for veterinary services.

There are several other benefits associated with sending a regular newsletter. By communicating regularly with your clients and sharing useful information with them, you build a bond of trust. Your veterinary hospital newsletter acts as an ideal medium for providing your reader with relevant information, and letting them know about the latest improvements in veterinary medicine as well as at your hospital.

When pet owners were asked to describe the benefits of veterinary email newsletters, three reasons stood out:

  • Informative: They keep pet owners up-to-date with the latest trends in veterinary medicine
  • Convenient: Can this get any easier? The pet owner has interesting and informative information delivered right to his / her In-Box on a regular basis.
  • Timely: A newsletter from the veterinarian offers current information and timely advice.

We have a wonderful and creative staff. We only work with the veterinary profession. Almost 100% of our clients are veterinary hospitals so we are focused on their needs and the needs of their clients (the pet owners).

As the owner of VetNetwork, I am a veterinarian with more than 25 years of hospital ownership experience. I know what veterinarians want to include in their newsletters and I understand what pet owners want to read.
